Bench (hand files from one tool to the next)

Runs in your browserNothing is uploadedThis runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Files left here stay on this device and can be picked up from any tool, so resizing and then compressing no longer means downloading and re-uploading in between. Nothing here leaves your device.

Input

This is a place for work in progress. Browsers clear it when space runs low, so download anything you want to keep.

Output

The bench is empty

Why this one

Hand files straight to the next tool
Resize an image and then strip its location data without downloading and re-uploading in between. Anything a tool produces is tagged with the tool that made it, so several files with the same name stay distinguishable.
It survives closing the page
The browser's own file storage is used, so what you leave is still here after a reload or a restart. You can stop halfway and come back to it.
It never leaves the device
Files on the bench live only on this device. As with every other tool here, nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is shared, so no one else can reach them.

How to use it

  1. Leave a file

Drag it here or choose it. There is no limit on how many.

  2. Pick it up in a tool

Tools that support it show "Pick from the bench" in their drop area.

  3. Send results back

Save output to the bench and the next tool can use it directly.

Worth knowing

It is not permanent storage
Browsers clear this kind of storage when the device runs low on space. It is dependable for work in progress, but it is not the place to keep anything you care about. Use Download on any row to write a copy to your normal files.
It is not shared between devices
The bench belongs to this browser on this device. Another device of yours cannot see it. To move a file between devices, use device-to-device transfer.
Private windows do not keep it
In a private or incognito window everything disappears when the window closes, because the browser hands out temporary storage there. A normal window keeps it.
Some browsers cannot do this
Older browsers lack this storage entirely. There the bench simply does not appear and tools work the way they always have. Rather than half-working and losing files, it stays hidden when it cannot be trusted.

Questions

Where do the files actually live?
In storage the browser manages on this device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Is there a size limit?
It depends on the browser and free space. Leaving many large videos can cause older items to be cleared.
Do files survive closing the page?
Yes, in a normal window. A private window discards everything when it closes.
Which tools can use it?
More are being connected. Supported tools show "Pick from the bench" in their drop area.
Can I empty it?
Yes. Discard all asks once, then clears everything.
