How to use it
- 1Choose a photoUse the box above or drag a photo in. The same file can be selected again after a reset or reselect.
- 2Adjust or mark contentMove the adjustment controls, or choose Redact mode and drag on the original. Keyboard users can enter the rectangle coordinates and add it with the button.
- 3Choose a format and saveChoose PNG, JPEG, or WebP and, for lossy formats, a quality. Check the dimension, alpha, and lossy disclosures before saving.
About this tool
Exposure changes brightness, contrast changes light/dark separation, and saturation and pixelation change colour or block appearance. The calculations are deterministic Canvas operations in your browser.
In Redact mode, selected rectangles are painted over the pixels in the saved file. The selected pixels cannot be recovered from that file. This is not anonymization: context outside the rectangles and remaining identifying features are not guaranteed to disappear.
PNG stores the processed pixels losslessly, and PNG/WebP can preserve alpha. JPEG has no alpha; transparent pixels are filled white. JPEG and WebP are lossy and may change fine detail.

Limits and privacy
Is Redact anonymization?
No. Redact irreversibly covers selected content; it is not anonymization. It cannot guarantee that information outside the selected rectangles, or remaining context such as a face, body, clothing, or background, cannot identify someone.
Are photos sent to a server?
No. Reading, adjusting, covering, and encoding happen in this browser. This tool does not upload the file or download a model.
What is the difference between JPEG and PNG?
PNG stores the processed pixels losslessly and can preserve transparency. JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels are filled white when it is saved. JPEG and WebP are lossy, so fine detail can change during encoding.
FAQ
Does it change the original file?
No. It saves a new PNG, JPEG, or WebP file. The original remains unchanged, including any pixels covered by Redact.
What happens with a very large photo?
If the browser Canvas limit requires it, the original and processing/output dimensions are shown and the output is smaller. Check the disclosure before saving.
Is pixelation privacy redaction?
No. Pixelation is a visual filter. Use Redact mode when selected content needs to be irreversibly covered.
